BOATS BUSTED FOR POACHING IN WEST AFRICA
The Bob Barker has concluded a month of patrols in the waters of The Gambia that saw the arrest of two fishing vessels: one for the possession of 54 shark or ray fins; and one for using an illegal net mesh size.
The two arrests follow on twelve other arrests made since the start of Operation Gambian Coastal Defense in August of last year.
Sea Shepherd has partnered with the Department of Fisheries in The Gambia and The Gambia Navy, to protect a marine protected area reserved for wildlife and artisanal fishing communities.
Sea Shepherd provides the ship, the crew and the fuel; while the government of The Gambia provides the direction and the law enforcers with the authority to board, inspect and arrest vessels engaged in poaching.
